Boom! The Bomb Goes Off - Part One.

Sunday 24th July 1955. Royal Free Hospital, Grays Inn Road, London. An emergency meeting is hastily convened to discuss a way of dealing with, what appears to be, an outbreak of infectious mononucleosis - glandular fever. The national press had broken the 'nurses ill' story in the middle of the week but since its last appearance on Thursday, they had gone quiet. That was about to change.

Anyway, that meeting...

The press were then told of the decision. The following day all the major UK papers carry the story, often on the front page. The story remains big for the next week - but it's only the beginning of the commonly acknowledged duration of the outbreak.
